Defence (Intro Level)

Nov 12th, 4-6:30pm U13-U14

When starting competitive volleyball, one of the most challenging things to teach a team can be how to set up their defence. We are running a clinic in order to introduce athletes to a deeper understanding of defensive strategies and create a more offensive mindset.

Blocking in volleyball is the first opportunity the players on your serving team on defense have to stop the opposing team from spiking, bumping or tipping the ball successfully into your court. We've invited Tasha Holness who represented Team Canada for 8 years and was nominated as the best middle blocker numerous times in her life. If you want to become the best - train with the best!

Defence (Advanced Level)

Nov 12th, 6:30-9pm U15-U18

We are running this clinic in order to introduce athletes to a deeper understanding of defensive strategies and create a more offensive mindset. At this age the athletes play with more physically developed players, therefore the ball flies faster and the swings are getting harder. We will be working on tips that will help the players to choose their defence, place on the court, and body position.

Intro to Overhead Serving

Nov 26th, 10-12:30pm

Intro to Overhead Serving techniques. The main thing we are trying to get a beginning server to do is to have everything move in the same direction. By that, we mean that we want to see their body and arm swing all pointed the same way. We will teach the athletes how to generate optimal power and accuracy, in the most natural and physiologically correct way that will not negatively impact the joints.

Game strategies

Dec 18th, 2-4:30pm U15-U18

We define volleyball IQ as the ability to make right decisions on the court in the most intense situations. Think of all the little, quick decisions players have to make during the run of play – who to set, how to attack the ball, where to position themselves on defense, etc. Players lacking in volleyball IQ make the wrong decisions – in other words, pick the wrong solutions. We are here to offer those right tips so our athletes will be able to use them during their plays.

Welcome
to Our Site

Our clinics are designed for beginning and intermediate-level junior high and high school players, girls and boys (anyone entering grades 5-12). We offer instructions and training in the skills and techniques of passing, setting, attacking, serving and defence. Emphasis is placed on developing court movement, ball control, as well as game competition. A variety of drills, games, and competitions will be used to put these techniques into practice. Athletes are divided into courts by skill level, age and experience, which provides the appropriate learning environment. We are interested in your athletic and personal development. The self-managing and coping strategies will be provided to our athletes during the sessions. We care about your physical and mental health. Let us show you how team sports can increase your confidence, educate you on managing your emotions before and after games, and help you to meet new friends.

Skills clinics will be conducted at JVCENTRE.

Address: #130 10 SMED Lane SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4T5

The clinics start with a lecture about the importance of fundamental movements, volleyball IQ development strategies, and injury prevention techniques. Each session is dedicated to a specific skill and therefore during the first part of the clinic, we will be discussing skill-related questions.

Our sessions will be divided into two courts. One court will be set up for strength and conditioning, while the other court will be set up for skill development. The athletes will be divided into two groups.

One group will start with strength and conditioning, while the other will begin with skills development.

Each group will work for 50 minutes with each coach, followed by a 10-minute break before they switch courts.

With the strength and conditioning coach, the athletes will be introduced to the proper biomechanics of movement, and work with the coach on developing their footwork, agility, core strength, explosive power, shoulder mobility, coordination and overall conditioning.

With the skills development coaches, each session would be dedicated to a specific skill. The group will work with the volleyball coach on specific volleyball drills that will increase their technique, understanding and execution of this individual skill. The fitness program will be tailored to prepare them physically, and support the athletes' development in these skills.

Each session will conclude with a scrimmage where athletes can incorporate their newly improved skills into game situations.
